KLAR – mouth-blown glasses made from 99% recycled glass

KLAR is our glass collection for everyday use: mouth-blown drinking glasses, quiet in form and clear on the surface. The glass is 99% recycled – melted-down bottles and preserving jars – with the remaining one per cent being soda ash. From the material, a delicate green shimmer remains, coming and going in the light. The fine bubbles of earlier editions are gone. What has stayed is that every piece is blown individually: small differences in shape and wall thickness can occur, and the rim tells of how it was made. The glasses are produced in a glassworks in Poland.
Whether water, wine or juice – KLAR slips effortlessly into all kinds of table settings and combines well with our ceramic collections. And with the older VIDRA glasses, of course.

GLASS - WHERE IT COMES FROM AND WHAT IT DOES TO US

The oldest man-made glass probably dates back to around 3500 BC, from the Near East. Back then it was made almost incidentally, as a by-product of glazes.
From that moment on, the craft never let humanity go. The fascination with this material – solid and transparent at once – has lasted to this day.
We associate glasses with purity, joy, refreshment, beauty and much more. They are part of our everyday lives and grace billions of cabinets, kitchen cupboards and dining tables around the world. They are raised at weddings, New Year's parties and birthdays, and beaming faces gaze at them in delight. Countless rituals are bound up with them. Glass is part of our lives, and that is what makes it so precious.
A glass that breaks is therefore not finished. Old glass can be melted down and blown anew – and that is exactly what our glasses are made of, to 99%.

WHERE IS THE ONOMAO GLASS MADE?

Our glasses and the carafe are made in a glassworks in Poland. It was founded in 1986 – but the craft itself is older than the company: since 1957 it has been handed down within the family, from one generation to the next, learned at the blowpipe rather than in a classroom.
Everything is mouth-blown. What the glassblowers do there is hard to describe and even harder to imitate: they gather the hot glass, turn it, blow it, shape it – and let go the moment it's right. Alongside our glasses, the works produces vases, drinking-glass ranges and artistic pieces; more than 500 shapes are in its repertoire.
The material is recycled glass. The glassworks specialises in working with it: bottles and preserving jars, melted down and blown anew. Our glasses and carafes are 99% recycled glass, the remaining one per cent is soda ash. The delicate green shimmer in the clear glass comes from the material itself. You can see what the glass is made of.
