3 facts about our carafes

The sizes

Our carafes are available in three different modern designs and they vary slightly in size: The traditional ceramic carafe holds over a liter at 1200 ml, measures 21 cm in height and has a diameter of 11 cm. The "Aberta" carafe with its conical shape is 20 cm high, has a diameter of 10.5 cm and a capacity of 850 ml. The glass carafe is the smallest: with a height of 18 cm, a diameter of 9 cm and a volume of 750 ml. Carafes are ideal for water, iced tea or lemonade, but can also be used very flexibly as a coffee or milk jug. Fine drinks such as cocktails also look wonderful, especially in the glass carafe.

The design

Handcrafted in ceramic or in mouth-blown glass from Poland, our carafes bring together a craft tradition thousands of years old and contemporary design. Their look is timeless and understated: straight lines, a flat base and a generous opening with a pouring spout. The traditional ceramic carafes in natural tones have a dipped glaze that pairs the raw clay colour with an accent shade, finished with a handle. Alongside the traditional collection, the "Aberta" line stands out with its conical shape and classic white, edged with a subtle band of blue or orange. Like the glass carafes, these come without a handle, which underlines their slim, pared-back silhouette. Carafes are wonderfully versatile — for serving coffee, milk or tea as well as water or iced tea, or simply as a decorative piece.

The material

The three collections of handcrafted carafes stand out not only for their timeless design, but also for the quality of the materials we choose. Our stoneware is fired at high temperatures, which makes each piece robust and largely impermeable to water. It is then glazed using a distinctive technique: the piece is dipped in colour up to about a third or two thirds of the way, while the rest is left in its natural tone or in white. The "Aberta" collection, by contrast, is fully glazed, with a hand-painted rim in blue or orange as its accent. The glass carafes are mouth-blown. Because every step is done by hand, each carafe is one of a kind. Our glass carafes are made from 99% recycled material.

carafe

Our stoneware carafes are defined by the craftsmanship behind them and by their timeless design. These traditional vessels are carefully made and much loved for how many ways they can be used. Whether you are serving water, wine or something else, they are a beautiful addition to any table. The carafes also work well as vases. Made in Portugal, the stoneware keeps drinks at a pleasant temperature. Their understated beauty and the tradition they carry make them a welcome addition to any kitchen or table. The carafes are made in two family-run workshops in Portugal.

Questions & Answers

more Questions & Answers
To what extent do the products differ from the photos in the online store?

Due to the handmade production, all products differ slightly among themselves in shape, color and texture. This makes each piece unique and gives the products their individual charm.

Where are the products made?

We manufacture most of our products in Portugal. Our glasses products are made in the north of Spain.

How do I take care of my tableware to keep it in good condition for a long time?

onomao products are designed for long-term use. They are dishwasher, oven, and microwave safe. Treat your tableware with care and avoid exposing it to drastic temperature changes, as this can cause cracking. With our matte glazes, cutlery marks may appear over time. However, these are only superficial and can usually be easily removed with baking soda and a soft cloth.
