Variant

The hand-woven cotton rug is quite thick and keeps your feet particularly warm. The rug has been woven from recycled yarn in natural white, to which colored yarn has been added at discreet intervals. This gives the rug a bright and restrained appearance, but on closer inspection it looks exciting and lively.

It was made by Sr Rui, one of our very first producers. We now have a lot in common with him and his small, beautiful weaving mill in the north of Portugal. He produces all onomao rugs, which are woven from fabric and yarn remnants from the Portuguese fashion industry.

General product information:
Rui uses specially developed weft threads for his carpets, which he respins from recycled cotton yarns from the local textile industry. This carpet is particularly robust due to the dense weave.
Rui’s rugs are all traditionally handmade and due to small deviations in shape and color each one is a unique piece.

*Since our rugs are made from fabric scraps from the Portuguese fashion industry, it may happen that other fibers are mixed in with the main ingredient, cotton. Therefore, we specify a mixing ratio of 80% cotton and 20% other materials. However, in most cases it is 100% cotton.

Care Instructions

Machine washable up to a maximum of 30°C. Since it is a natural product, a little shrinkage after the first wash is possible.

Die Teppichweberei von Senhor Rui

Mit 16 Jahren fing Rui an für eine der größten Teppichfabriken des Landes zu arbeiten. Als diese im Zuge der Wirtschaftskrise 20 Jahre später schließen musste, hatte er die Möglichkeit ein paar der Webstühle zu kaufen und eine eigene Produktion zu starten.

Seine Teppiche werden aus wiederverwendeten Baumwollgarnen der lokalen Textilindustrie hergestellt, die er selbst spinnt.

Anders als bei den traditionell gewebten Teppichen, verwendet er als Grundstruktur Jutefasern, wodurch die Teppiche sehr robust werden. Gewebt werden sie aus Überzeugung in Handarbeit. Rui gehört zu unseren ersten Produzenten und unsere Zusammenarbeit hat sich über die letzten Jahre stetig entfaltet.

We know the effect of rooms on our well-being from an early age: We enter a room and feel comfortable - or not. Whether a room makes us feel good depends on countless factors. Some of them we can influence ourselves.

We spend more than 60 percent of our lives within our own four walls. That's quite a lot of time - and since home offices have become part of everyday working life for many people, it has increased even more.

One of the factors that influence us is the smell of a home. If it smells homely, then we also feel comfortable. The smell of warm pancakes, for example, can remind us of childhood and family - we feel safe. A crackling beeswax candle, on the other hand, radiates a calming effect. Another influencing factor is the quality of the air: plants clean it and also provide oxygen, and the eye is also pleased by the sight of fresh flowers in a vase. Likewise, warmth can increase the sense of well-being: snugly wrapped in a warming wool blanket, it is easy to relax, the feet in turn are happy about the carpet next to the bed. Finally, the whole person is happy about a beautifully laid table that radiates joie de vivre and quality. Thus, with the little things we can do great things and beautify our lives.

What material are the rugs made of?

The rugs are made from fabric scraps from the Portuguese fashion industry. From them, producer Rui spins new yarns. Accordingly, the composition of the carpets is not clearly defined. However, most often it is at least 80% cotton and 20% mixed fibers.

Can I clean the rugs in the washing machine?

Our rugs are machine washable up to max. 30°C. Since they are natural fibers, minimal shrinkage is possible.

Where are the rugs made?

The rugs are created in Senhor Rui's manufactory in Portugal. He processes fabric scraps from local industry into new yarns. Due to the handmade production, each carpet is unique.

How long is the delivery time?

We do our best to process your order within 2 business days. Once your order has been handed over to our shipping partner DHL, it usually takes another 1-3 business days within Germany until your order arrives. Shipping to foreign countries may take a little longer.
