DUARTE & DUARTINHO – Hand-painted vases from Portugal

Timeless in form and hand-painted: our vases Duarte and Duartinho bring a calm, natural presence to any table, sideboard, or windowsill. Each line is created by hand – small variations tell the story of their production in a Portuguese workshop and make every ceramic vase unique.

Duarte gives space to tall branches and generous floral arrangements; Duartinho accompanies single blossoms, short grasses, or stands alone as an object in its own right. Together, they appear like a quiet conversation – subtle, warm, and enduring.

Made of stoneware, hand-painted and durable – vases for flowers that are allowed to bloom and fade, and for a home that becomes a little more beautiful every day.

How your home affects your well-being

We know the effect of rooms on our well-being from an early age: We enter a room and feel comfortable - or not. Whether a room makes us feel good depends on countless factors. Some of them we can influence ourselves.

We spend more than 60 percent of our lives within our own four walls. That's quite a lot of time - and since home offices have become part of everyday working life for many people, it has increased even more.

One of the factors that influence us is the smell of a home. If it smells homely, then we also feel comfortable. The smell of warm pancakes, for example, can remind us of childhood and family - we feel safe. A crackling beeswax candle, on the other hand, radiates a calming effect. Another influencing factor is the quality of the air: plants clean it and also provide oxygen, and the eye is also pleased by the sight of fresh flowers in a vase. Likewise, warmth can increase the sense of well-being: snugly wrapped in a warming wool blanket, it is easy to relax, the feet in turn are happy about the carpet next to the bed. Finally, the whole person is happy about a beautifully laid table that radiates joie de vivre and quality. Thus, with the little things we can do great things and beautify our lives.

SPECIALIZED IN HAND PAINTING

Our vases DUARTE, DUARTINHO, and partially the vases from the Artist Edition with Jimu Kobayashi, HIROSHI, and UME, are created in a ceramics factory in the heart of Portugal. In addition to those vases, our tableware collection ABERTA is also handcrafted there.

The factory was founded in 1988 by a family with a long-standing tradition in the ceramics industry and has over fifty years of experience in ceramic production.

Over the years, the company has continually evolved while maintaining the traditional component that characterizes the Alcobaça region. One of their specializations is hand painting. This blend of tradition and modernity appeals greatly to us. Therefore, the delicate lines on the vases are all hand-applied with a brush.
