3 facts about our stoneware cups

The Material

Stoneware and earthenware differ primarily in their firing temperature and density. Stoneware is fired at higher temperatures, which makes it less porous and therefore more resistant and less water-absorbent. Stoneware ceramic cups, whether large or small, are therefore particularly durable and ideal for coffee and espresso enjoyment. Available with or without handles - as a cup or mug - they offer a natural look and are comfortable to hold. The large cups are ideal for tea and soups.

The design

Different coffee specialties require different cup shapes and sizes. The onomao stoneware cups come in three different collections: traditionally simple and timeless with a flat base and straight edge, classic and slightly more elegant raised on a base, and in a modern conical shape at Aberta. The various coffee cups and mugs are available with and without handles, between 60 ml espresso cups and 500 ml large cups for milk coffee or tea. All cups are handmade in Portugal and are truly unique.

The colors

Our stoneware coffee cups are robust and durable. The sustainable, hand-crafted production makes each cup unique. A wide range of colors, from glazes in simple natural tones and white to bright colors in blue, rose or green, offer cups and mugs for every taste and occasion. The reactive glazing in particular creates unique color gradients and the combination of colored glazed and natural parts, e.g. in dipped versions, focuses on the naturalness of the stoneware ceramics.

Questions & Answers

more Questions & Answers
To what extent do the products differ from the photos in the online store?

Due to the handmade production, all products differ slightly among themselves in shape, color and texture. This makes each piece unique and gives the products their individual charm.

Where are the products made?

We manufacture most of our products in Portugal. Our glasses products are made in the north of Spain.

Are the products manufactured sustainably?

The onomao products are made in manufactories in Portugal. This means they have shorter transport routes and less CO2 is emitted. We use only recycled or natural materials from the region. In order not to waste resources, we also buy products with small blemishes from our manufactures.

How do I take care of my tableware to keep it in good condition for a long time?

onomao products are designed for long-term use. They are dishwasher, oven, and microwave safe. Treat your tableware with care and avoid exposing it to drastic temperature changes, as this can cause cracking. With our matte glazes, cutlery marks may appear over time. However, these are only superficial and can usually be easily removed with baking soda and a soft cloth.
