Our rug collective Fatima
Fatima is not only our collective. She is the carpet queen of a whole village. She gets fabric scraps from the local fashion industry, sorts and selects them and then passes them on to her weavers (mostly older ladies). The rugs are woven in the traditional way on old wooden looms. Most of the weavers have been weaving all their lives and have developed incredible skill and speed in handling the fabrics. The stories about their lives as carpet weavers are generally very moving. To them it is a culture, which is slowly being replaced by a large industry.
In Fatima, we have found someone who is able to translate our design and color visions to a traditional Portuguese carpet craftsmanship.
